Kempsey Finals Success!

Two finalists, two runners-up, two MVPs, and a first season together for our young women.

Four of Kempsey Basketball's five representative teams progressed to the Northern Junior League Grand Finals weekend this season, with two teams finishing as finalists and two as runners-up.

Our U12 Men and U14 Men became NJL finalists, and both teams produced an MVP medallist — Malachi French in the U12s and Jacob Bowen in the U14s. Our U16 Men and U18 Men finished as runners-up, an outstanding result and something those players and coaches should be incredibly proud of.

For an Association of our size, having four teams from five competing on Grand Finals weekend is a genuinely fantastic result.

Our young women's first season together

Our young women also deserve special recognition. While they did not make the finals this season, they played valiantly throughout their first representative season together. They worked hard, continued learning and improved with every game.

Results are important, but development is equally important. Watching this group grow in confidence, skill and teamwork throughout the season has been fantastic, and we are excited about what comes next for them.

It does not happen accidentally

"These achievements do not happen accidentally. They come from players training, coaches giving their time, managers organising teams, parents travelling, officials supporting games and volunteers doing countless jobs behind the scenes."

Meg Kemp, President, Kempsey Basketball Association

Every one of those roles was filled by someone who chose to give up their weekends. Four teams did not reach a Grand Finals weekend because of one thing going right. They got there because a lot of people did a lot of small jobs, most of which nobody saw.

Well done to our entire basketball community!

What comes next

Representative planning for next season begins in Term 4, with trials to follow. If your child is interested in the representative pathway, or you would like to help as a coach, manager or official, we would like to hear from you.
