A community-based, not-for-profit basketball association creating opportunities for local kids, families and players across the Macleay Valley.
Kempsey Basketball Association is based in Kempsey on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, with players coming from right across the Kempsey Shire.
We are a grassroots association, built around participation, development and connection. Our representative teams play as the Kempsey Kookaburras.
Everything we do is run by volunteers. Nobody at KBA is paid to coach, referee, run the canteen or organise a season.
Aussie Hoops for ages 6 to 10, where most kids play their first ever game of basketball.
Local competition on Wednesday nights for ages 10 to 15, in a mixed and friendly environment.
Representative basketball in the Northern Junior League, for players ready to compete at a higher level.
We also support schools and community programs that use basketball to build connection, confidence and wellbeing.
How we play, and how we behave
Basketball is the vehicle, not the point. It is where a young person can build confidence, learn commitment, develop leadership and strengthen respect for themselves and others.
We want every player to feel welcome, supported and part of something bigger than themselves — whether they are chasing a representative jersey or just turning up on a Wednesday because their mates are there.
Our membership keeps growing, and the next stage is not just about getting bigger. It is about getting stronger.
That means more trained coaches and referees, a broader base of volunteers so the same few people are not carrying everything, and keeping fees as affordable as we can for local families.
It also means working towards fit-for-purpose indoor courts in Kempsey. Right now our teams travel to play, and that is the single biggest thing holding local basketball back.
Come and be part of it
Whether you want to play, help out for a couple of hours, or just find out what is on, we would like to hear from you.
